Description

We are Brayford Shapiro, a Saskatoon law firm that has practised since 1979. Our firm is led by Mark Brayford, K.C., who was appointed King’s Counsel in 1995 and is recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada for criminal defence. We work from the historic Land Titles Building on 21st Street East.

Impaired driving and criminal defence

Our criminal practice covers the full range of charges, from impaired driving to homicide, drug and violent crime. Impaired driving cases can turn on technical evidence and on whether police respected your Charter rights, and the consequences are serious: a Criminal Code charge in Saskatchewan brings an immediate licence suspension until the case is resolved, and a conviction means a fine, a driving prohibition and a criminal record.

We bring decades of trial experience to every file. We review the investigation from the first stop through the breath testing, advise you on your options, and represent you at trial. Our lawyers also handle cases at the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Daniel Shapiro, K.C., a Chartered Arbitrator, leads the firm’s mediation and arbitration work.

Charged with impaired driving in Saskatoon? Key facts

From Saskatchewan DUI Lawyers: in Saskatchewan, a Criminal Code impaired driving charge brings an immediate licence suspension that lasts until the charge is resolved in court, plus a vehicle impoundment. Drivers with a blood alcohol level of .04 to .08, and any driver affected by drugs, also face roadside suspensions and impoundment from SGI, and new drivers face zero tolerance. See Saskatchewan DUI penalties and our guide to Saskatchewan impaired driving laws. The province has also proposed new administrative penalties for drivers over .08, which are not yet law. A conviction for impaired driving, over 80 or refusal brings a fine, a driving prohibition and a criminal record, so speak with a lawyer early. Read about impaired driving charges in Saskatchewan.
