Description

We are Ward Mischuk Thomson LLP (WMT Law), a downtown Saskatoon firm founded by litigators. Our criminal defence lawyers, including Meagan Ward and Laura Mischuk, represent people charged with impaired driving and other criminal offences.

Impaired driving defence in Saskatoon

For many of our clients, an impaired driving charge is their first contact with the criminal justice system. We explain what happens next, from the immediate licence suspension and vehicle impoundment to the first court date, and we give practical advice about the choices ahead.

We defend charges of impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit and refusal, and we review the evidence carefully: the reason for the stop, the demands made at the roadside and at the station, how the breath samples were taken, and whether your rights were respected. We appear in Provincial Court and the Court of King’s Bench.

Our criminal practice also covers drug offences, assault and theft, and youth matters. The firm also practises family law, civil litigation, wills and estates, and real estate.

Charged with impaired driving in Saskatoon? Key facts

From Saskatchewan DUI Lawyers: in Saskatchewan, a Criminal Code impaired driving charge brings an immediate licence suspension that lasts until the charge is resolved in court, plus a vehicle impoundment. Drivers with a blood alcohol level of .04 to .08, and any driver affected by drugs, also face roadside suspensions and impoundment from SGI, and new drivers face zero tolerance. See Saskatchewan DUI penalties and our guide to Saskatchewan impaired driving laws. The province has also proposed new administrative penalties for drivers over .08, which are not yet law. A conviction for impaired driving, over 80 or refusal brings a fine, a driving prohibition and a criminal record, so speak with a lawyer early. Read about impaired driving charges in Saskatchewan.
